Description: ( CELL PHONE USERS PLEASE CLICK THE "SEE FULL DESCRIPTION" LINK BELOW FOR MORE DETAILS AND PHOTOGRAPHS! ) Scarce Original French Napoleonic Wars Gun Powder Keg- Circa 1810 Click images to enlarge Description Up for Consideration is a Extremely Scarce Original French Napoleonic Wars Gun Powder Keg- Circa 1810 c.1810 Original Antique powder keg for powder used in pistols, muskets and cannon fuses. Measuring 8.5 inches long, 5.75 inches at the ends and 7.5 inches at the widest point with an 1.25 inch iron spout with original embedded cork and its original 5.0 inch iron handle. This small keg is painted red, white and blue the traditional colors of the French revolution. Each end is marked with the number 5, perhaps indicating which unit it belonged to. Please note that the vivid paint color (for a 200-year-old item) indicates that this keg has almost certainly been repainted at some point after its use in the early 19th century. The small keg may very well have seen service in the Napoleonic Wars, but this type of fine powder carrier certainly saw service until the close of the flintlock era meaning its certainly genuine, but we cannot pinpoint its exact age. Condition is very nice with worm holes and usual age related surface ware. All 4 original iron bands are nice and tight, some expected paint loss. Else very fine. This is an Ex-Museum Piece which had previously been on display in a Private Collection in Worcester, Massachusetts for many years!
