Schiaparelli 1930’s Vintage Silver Metal Mesh Party Clutch Bag PRICELESS

Description: The first mesh metal handbag was invented in the late 1800s by Charles Whiting, with each link painstakingly hand-welded. By the 1920s, the evolved version of the mesh metal bag (with tiny, slinky interlocking metal pieces) was all the rage with flappers and other fabulous women across the globe. In the 1930s, the company Whiting & Davis collaborated with luxury fashion houses, one of which was the still-iconic Schiaparelli. To find one of the few remaining Schiaparelli X Whiting & Davis mesh clutches is a near-miracle for true fashionistas. Presenting this rare find. The aluminum mesh is in superb vintage shape and moves with grace and slinkiness—as it was designed to do. The articulating carry strap does have one side that has come loose (see photos), but the clutch can be carried with the strap down (it hinges). The bag opens with the lift of a hinged medallion, and it moves well and closes easily. The cream satin lining is slightly soiled, and the stitching has pulled away from the outside. One internal pocket and space enough to hold keys, phone, and a few odds and ends. Usable as is. Does not smell. In remarkable vintage shape for a bag that is almost 100 years old. A truly outstanding and rare treasure, it belongs in a museum—or in your closet.
