Description: Scotch 150 Early Gen Reel to Reel Recording Tape, LP, 7" Reel, 1800 ft, Used Scotch 150 was introduced in 1954 as their first LP (long play) tapes offering 50% more run time than standard tapes, and have the characteristic red oxide formulation. This was a very popular tape back in the day, so they are often found in garage or estate sales. It was produced until 1972 for an incredible 18 year production run. Notes:This is a formula that has withstood the test of time. It is amazing to consider that you can make a high quality recordings on a 60 year old tape, but this is indeed possible.The tape was originally developed to provide the same performance as the Scotch 111 with a thinner oxide coat to make a quality LP tapeTapes of this vintage have a tendency to shed quite a bit more oxide more than modern tapes. This is not a sign that this tape is degrading, it should be considered normal. Remember to clean your heads often!The general quality of these tapes increased over their production run as general improvements were made, particularly with oxide shedding and smoothness.This tape formulation was often used for commercial tape duplication.This tape was also made by 3M Sumitomo in Japan and was available in large hub 7" reels, and was also made by 3M in Italy for a time.Later a version of the 150 was made in Italy with a gray oxide similar to the Scotch Dynarange (203) and Superlife series 215 (which was only made in Italy). Tests have shown the bias of this tape is similar to those tapes. What are refurbished tapes?
