Description: Searching for the Young Soul Rebels is the debut studio album by English band Dexys Midnight Runners, released on 11 July 1980, through Parlophone and EMI Records. Led by Kevin Rowland, the band formed in 1978 in Birmingham, England, and formed a strong live reputation before recording their first material. Recorded during April 1980, the album combines the aggressiveness of punk rock with soul music, particularly influenced by the Northern soul movement. The album was preceded by and contains the hit-single "Geno", which topped the UK Singles Chart. It also contains two other charting singles: "Dance Stance" (re-recorded as "Burn It Down") and "There, There, My Dear" (which included the lyrics "I've been searching for the young soul rebels" that inspired the album's title). The album reached number 6 on the UK Albums Chart and is certified silver by the British Phonographic Industry. It has been widely acclaimed by music critics since its release and is included in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. FUN (?) FACT: The album cover features a photograph of a 13-year-old Irish Catholic boy carrying his belongings after being forced from his home in Belfast, Northern Ireland because of civil unrest in 1971. The photo was included in the Evening Standard the next day and was picked up by the band nine years later. The boy later identified himself as Anthony O'Shaughnessy. He stated that "There were tensions simmering for about three days. People did not know what was going to happen. I thought it was a dream and in the morning everything would be okay, I don't even remember the photographer doing the picture." Upon the choice of the image Rowland explained "I wanted a picture of unrest. It could have been from anywhere but I was secretly glad that it was from Ireland." THIS COPY is an original pressing from 1980 on the EMI America label. I was not able to find a definitive source as to where it was pressed, but based on the appearance of a triangle logo in the dead wax, my guess is that it was a Monarch pressing. (see further Notes, below). However, the first part of the dead wax info does match a generic listing that does not reference any pressing plant, so perhaps they just did not fill in the rest of the markings [?]. The vinyl has several marks, some look like rubbing from the inner sleeve, but per a test listen, none of them affect playback. The vinyl is in Very Good Plus [VG+] condition. The original cover is in shiny Excellent [EX] condition. The original inner sleeve, which is poly with the EMI America logo repeated (see pics), has square corners and an opening in the logo printing as if for a center label hole, but there is not label hole in the poly itself. Some wrinkles, but overall it is in Excellent [EX] condition.Notes Track B1 is a cover of Chuck Wood - Seven Days Too Long.Barcode and Other IdentifiersMatrix / Runout (Side A etched): SW-1-17042-Z-4 [triangle logo] N-47Matrix / Runout (Side B etched): SW-2-17042-Z-4 [triangle logo] N-47 Rights Society: ASCAP ENJOY!
