Description: Maker and age: The renowned Limoges firm Lewis Strauss and Sons - whose mark appears on the reverse of this set of 3 elegant cups and saucers - exported high quality porcelain from France and other European countries. The firm is also known as Lazarus Strauss & Sons. The green white ware mark number 1 of Mavaleix, the factory that produced the porcelain, also appears. This mark was in use between 1908 and 1914. Design: The set is beautifully hand painted with a band of gold scrollwork and a gold medallion against a backdrop of thin translucent porcelain. It's the pattern that replacements.com calls LSS56. Size: The saucers are 5 7/8 inches wide. The cups are 3 1/2 inches wide and 2 1/8 inches tall. The set weighs 1 pound 5 ounces. Condition: The saucers have no marks, nicks, chips, cracks, stains, repairs or crazing. There is significant wear to the cup slots. One cup has a tiny chip on the edge that has been painted over in gold and two are discolored on the bottom - this is shown in the photos with the red arrows and penny. There are several tiny embedded dark spots that were created in the manufacturing process. Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
