SGC 3 - 1954 Bowman # 23 George Blanda RC Chicago Bears HOF

Description: An SGC graded VG 3 – 1954 Bowman rookie card of Hall of Famer George Blanda of the Chicago Bears. Blanda played 1 game with the Baltimore Colts in 1950, before returning to the Bears. He also played with the Houston Oilers and Oakland Raiders. This example has nice color, bold printing, good focus, nice centering and bright borders. The corners are consistent with those found on most VG examples. There is some diagonal creasing (approx. 3/4" long) on the top of the right border and a light diagonal crease (approx. 1/4" long) near the upper left corner. There are a couple of extremely light surface creases on the back that do not show on the front of the card. Otherwise, the card appears to be free of any additional creasing. There is what appears to be some light wax residue from the original wrapper above the player's right shoulder. This are also a couple of very light diagonal indentations (each approx. 1/4" long) that can be seen when the card is tilted to the light. There is one on the player's right shoulder and the other is between the numbers on the jersey, but they do not detract too much from the overall eye appeal. The back is clean with bold printing. With the creasing and other minor flaws, we were expecting this card to receive an SGC 2.5 grade, but SGC graded it slightly higher than we thought they would. It is still a nice looking lower grade example, just slightly over-graded in our opinion. We have priced it lower than we would normally sell and SGC 3 example for.
