Description: This was found years ago when over time, beach erosion caused Coney Island to loose almost half of its beach sand in several bays. This caused lots of interesting items from Coney Island’s heyday to come to the surface. Bottles from the 1800's were found sitting half buried in the sand to the delight of beachcombers. We recovered 100's of beach tags from the various bath houses of the day, coins and old jewelry that were lost long ago, but once in a while a storm brings one or two back to the surface. This relic is one of those finds. I don't know what metal it is, may be lead or pot metal ? Measures 3 inches in diameter. I don't know what it is, other than a ship's wheel, people I showed it to came up with many guesses. It was suggested that it was probably a decoration on the old steel pier that worked itself loose and dropped into the water, or from one of the numerous bath houses that proudly stood on the boardwalk, or your guess is as good as mine : - )
