Description: This Shiva Lingam was newly collected in India in 1978. It has the Tripundra with three horizontal lines. (See description Tripundra his below.) The potency of a Shiva Lingam stone comes from the appropriately marked Tripundra. When we bought this stone in 1978 the Tripundra was described to us as similar to the red mark on Indian women's forehead, hence the appropriate place to have the Tripundra on the stone. On a South Asian India woman the red mark is called "bindi" and it is placed at the location of jana chakra or the Third Eye. The importance of the color red is that is associated with passion, love and prosperity. We have had the stone sitting on a smashed frog stand adding humor to anyone using their Third Eye to "see". It does not come with the purchase of the stone but was used in one photo to show the stone standing. This shiva lingam stone weighs approx. 4.2 pounds, is approx 7.3 inches long/high and approx 3.5 inches in diameter. Many of the Shiva Lingams found today do not have the properly placed red markings, so while they are pleasing to the eye in form, the power of the stone is not there because there is no Third Eye. Notes:The red mark on the forehead of a Shiva Lingam stone is known as the Tripundra. It consists of three horizontal lines, which symbolize Shiva's threefold power: will (icchāśakti), knowledge (jñānaśakti), and action (kriyāśakti). The red color often represents passion, energy, and the divine fire associated with Lord Shiva.
