showy double rabbet wood shave spokeshave w/ brass trim & marked OVP

Description: You are bidding on one double rabbet shave or spokeshave as pictured.It is marked only with "O V P" on the end of one handle. Neither one is marked. Overall length of the shave is about 10-5/8", and each iron is about 9/16" in width. The lengths of the irons are about 2" for one and about 2-1/16" for the other. The top trim is steel, and the bottom trim and the center fence are brass. I'm not at all sure what wood the body is made of, but it has some sort of a coating on it that has flaked off in a few places, and quite a bit of dirt or crud on top of that coating. The little wedges appear to be boxwood or something similar.The depth of cut is limited by the center fence as the center fence is currently adjusted. About 1/2" of each iron is visible, and the depth is also limited by the center fence. That fence should be adjustable, as the two halves should slide one inside the other on a dovetail joint as shown, but I couldn't get them to budge although I didn't try very hard. Condition is very good to excellent, other than the crud on the body to clean off. There are some scratches from the finishing of the brass, but it appears to have seen very little use. The irons have some scratches from a prior cleaning and some patina. There is a small hole, probably from a removed screw eye, in the end opposite the OVP mark. The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it's not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20" long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30" long, because those longer packages won't fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay. If I ship to a state where eBay is required to collect sales tax, eBay will charge you the sales tax for your location.
