Description: This is a rare, signed, Larry Towell print and it was sold during Magnum Photos' Crossings Square Print Sale in November 2018. Note the especially beautiful signature on the back of the print. Last copy in stock. Condition: Brand New/Mint. SIGNED The print is signed on the back, the accompanying text label is attached to the back of the print and is of archival quality. Magnum Square Prints are printed on Fuji Crystal archive paper and come in an archival and protective sleeve. All prints are archival quality and are approved by the photographer. Magnum worked closely with photographers and estates to ensure that all editions were presented according to their intentions. Paper size: 6 x 6 in (15.24 x 15.24 cm) Image Size: 5.5 in (14 cm) on the longest side The print was issued in an un-numbered Limited Edition (limited to the number of prints purchased during the 7 days in which the sale was open to the public). It is sure to become a highly collectible photograph given the provenance linking it directly to the Magnum Photos collective and to the photographer. Text on the archival label attached to the back of the print: Mennonite Farmland. Chihuahua, Mexico. 1997. “The story of the Mennonites is a story of migration. The Old Colony migrated to Canada in the late 19th century after fleeing persecution in Europe, and later in Ukraine. Beginning in the 1920s, they left their Canadian colonies lured to Mexico by cheaper land. As the Mexican economy collapsed in the 1980s, many would begin to migrate north again as seasonal farm laborers. I met these families in the vegetable fields of my own backyard of rural Ontario, where I spent the summers with them and where they eventually invited me back to their Old Colony worlds. When I began in 1990, most of the Mexican settlements had no electricity, no vehicles and no modern amenities. They spoke only Low German. By the time I finished a decade later, their communities had modernized with the introduction of electricity and vehicles.
