It takes time and skills! In Uzbekistan, we have been practicing ikat fabric since medieval time. Silk threads are dyed before weaving. Threads are tied in bundles of 4 feet long. The pattern is put on those bundles. Darkest patterns are tied first, then the ones which are lighter, and lightest last. Tied silk threads are sunk into the bath with dyer. Then to a bath with quartz solution. It fixes the color and prevents from washing out and fade out. After threads are all dyed in the sun, they are set into the loom and then weaving starts. These pillows are adras pillow. Adras means a mix of silk and cotton threads. Silk threads always run vertically, while cotton threads are horizontal.
