Description: This is an original Singer Teacher’s Textbook of Machine Sewing, published in 1960 by the Singer Manufacturing Company for high school home economics classes. This book is in very good condition to be 64 years old with no known visible marks on any of the 194 interior pages. There are some markings on the cover as seen in the photos. The table of Contents lists chapters that include operating the sewing machine, seams, hemmers, zipper foot, quilting, buttonhole, embroidery and zigzag. It also includes special sections for Slant-O-Matic Machines 401 and 403. Also included in this listing is an original Outline of Student’s Lessons in Singer Sewing Skills. This 4-sheet addition is the six-lesson course to teach students the fundamentals. The interior does have notes written in the margins in light pencil. The staples are old but still hanging on and the top right corner has been folded inside the larger book, but all info is legible and contained. Please note the final page has detached from the bottom staple but is connected by the top one. Finally, there are 4 special original sets of pages from Woman’s Day magazine from the 1960s. The first is the Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches from the June 1961 Woman’s Day. It is pages 25-32 and includes descriptions and illustrations of 100 embroidery stitches. This is 4 connected sheets. The second two are special bonuses by Mary Johnson, the respected designer and sewing teacher. The June 1962 article is pages 73-80 and is “150 Sewing Tips for your home, your family and yourself.” This is 4 connected sheets. The November 1963 article is pages 45-52 and is a special bonus book “Sewing for your home.” This is 4 separated sheets. Please feel free to ask for any additional photos prior to purchase. This is definitely a unique item to add to your collection, but is also usable with timeless tips and instruction for both the beginner and veteran sewing machine user.
