Description: Sir Macpherson Robertson [1859 1945] was an Australian philanthropist, entrepreneur and founder of the chaocolate and confectionery company MacRobertson's. In 1878, using skills he acquired in Scotland, he founded a confectionery manufacturing operation in Melbourne, Australia. His business quickly grew and became the largest confectionery works in Australia, employing thousands of workers and making him a very rich man. Using monies from his business, he donated to numerous causes and sponsorships, such as in 1925, he established the MacRobertson International Croquet Shield, which is still played today, in 1928, he sponsored the MacRobertson Expedition, in 1929, the New Zealand Antarctic Expedition, in 1932, he was knighted, in 1933, he established High Schools, and public works, the MacRobertson Bridge over the Yarra River, in 1934 he co-founded Western Australian Airline, and MacRobertson Airlines and sponsored the MacRobertson Air Race, from London to Melbourne with a 75,00 purse. Listed for auction is the exceedingly rare autograph of Sir Macpherson Robertson. The autograph is signed ''Mac Robertson'' on an album page. The page is dated in the corner 23/10/34, this would coincide with the MacRobertson Air Race he sponsored and would explain why the autograph of air racer Jean Batten is signed on the verso. Jane Gardner Batten [1909 1982], commonly known as Jean Batten, was a record setting New Zealand aviator who began her flying career in the early 1930's. Batten learned to fly in England and immediately set off to break numerous aviation records. In 1934, she became the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia, followed by an endurance flight of 61 hours from England to Brazil. Her most famous flight was from England to New Zealand in 1936, a record that would stand for 44 years. In 1937, she completed her last record solo flight from Australia to England. The autograph is signed ''Jean Batten'' in black fountain pen ink. The album page 4.75 x 3.75 inches, trivial toning otherwise it is in fine condition. The autographs are authentic, and the example signed by Sir Macpherson Roberston is quite rare to obtain. Dear Collector, we are regularly adding autographed framed displays to our eBay Store.
