Description: *** SQUARED FRONT TIP - FOR VINTAGE MODELS ONLY - READ BELOW!! *** *** READ CONDITION NOTES IN FULL - TINY, MINUSCULE FLAW IN THE CURVED CUTOUTBELOW SIGHT BLADE ON THE HEAD OF THE SIGHT *** *** MEASUREMENTS OF SIGHT ARE IN LISTING BELOW - MEASURE, and then MEASURE AGAIN!! *** Up for sale is a FINE overall condition, scarcely-seen, Vintage Complete Rear Sight Assembly with T-Nut and Front Mounting Screw, that originated from a well cared-for Smith & Wesson K-Frame Model 66-2 revolver (and happens to be the exact same Sight Assembly that would have been installed on many "NON SNUB-NOSED" K-Frame Model 66-1, or 66-2, or L-Frame Model 686 No Dash revolvers, for example...). This particular Assembly has the highly-desirable White Outline type blade, with a .146" Blade Height. The source revolver had a 4" barrel. The .146" blade height was native to many of the K and L Frame Smith & Wesson revolvers that had 4" and 6" barrels. (Although many of the Vintage N Frame Revolvers ALSO used the .146" White Outline blade, the size and configuration of the Sight Assembly in this Listing is typically compatible with the vintage K and L Frame Models.) Priced per quite favorable overall condition - and scarce availability - This is absolutely one of the nicest Rear Sight Assemblies we have had the pleasure to list in some time. These Assemblies have been out of production for over 30 years. THERE IS ONE SPOT IN PARTICULAR WE WANT TO DISCLOSE FULLY, REGARDING CONDITION - PLEASE NOTE: If you look closely at the Head of the Sight, from the top, you can see a tiny, minuscule "bump" in the metal that protrudes from the curved surface of the Sight Head, just behind the Blade Slot, on the right side of the upper curved surface. It appears to be a manufacturing flaw - perhaps that curved surface was not cut perfectly and it was not noticed, or perhaps simply passed inspection anyway. In any case, this spot is very, very small, and is barely noticeable unless you're "looking for it", but we want to make sure that this spot is disclosed right up front in the Listing. Beyond the comments above, this Sight assembly is in amazing condition. The Anti-Glare Serrations are not 100% "pristine perfect" but handling marks on the serrations - we can state confidently - are hardly visible and actually "Near Perfect": Only a few minuscule handling marks exist in the serrations and are difficult to see unless specifically examining closely, or under magnification. The White Outline has a minuscule, extremely tiny spot of the outline on the left vertical line that has some evidence of paint loss - this could be touched up with a steady hand and "pin prick" of paint, if the Buyer wished to even tinker with. Unless you are examining the outline up close or under magnification with a loupe, its almost unnoticeable. The remainder of the Assembly exhibits only a handful of minuscule handling marks otherwise, such as a faint amount of edge wear to the Screw Slot on the top of the Elevation Screw. Even edge wear is faint to almost non-existent, and there is little to no loss of the deep, dark Factory Original finish, which is especially difficult to find in a STAINLESS Sight Body (Note the "S" Stamping on the bottom face of the Sight Body). There is a very small amount of wear to the finish on the bottom face of the Sight, which is typical for any Sight Assembly that was actually installed on the gun! .... the spots on the bottom would be completely concealed once installed, anyway. We understand that Buyers are particular of details such as these and we want to ensure that these comments about condition are disclosed openly so that the Buyer has a realistic expectation of the condition of the Assembly when taking delivery. Please examine the extensive image set on a large-screen desktop or laptop computer so you can get a decent look at the condition of the Serrations, the Elevation Screw, the White Outline and Sight Blade, and the Assembly overall. Mechanically, this Rear Sight Assembly is fully functional: The Micrometer-Click windage adjustment and elevation screws function and "click" just as they should. As stated above, this Sight retains the vast majority of its black Factory Original finish throughout with virtually no loss of its color, and finally, it boasts a VERY BRIGHT & BOLD, clearly visible White Outline that is generally the critical factor most buyers seek. The included Front Leaf Mounting Screw is in favorable condition and shows only minimal tooling to the screw slot, has very little finish loss, and is fully functional. Included in this Listing also is the little silver-colored "T-Nut" that serves as the base of the Elevation Screw when installed. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION CAREFULLY !!! - Things to mention about the sight assembly, to help you identify a proper fitment for your application: - This sight has a SQUARE front end, typical to most of the older, large-frame and medium frame S&W revolvers. Please offer special attention to this, as the newer models have a rounded front end, and the mounting holes are positioned differently. - This assembly DOES INCLUDE the little "T-Nut" (seen in photos) that sits on the bottom of the sight. - This assembly DOES INCLUDE the front base mounting screw. - The sight's mounting holes are exactly 1.840" apart, on center. - The overall length of the entire assembly measures 2.740" inches long. If yours measures between 2.740" and 2.750" overall, these would be considered the same: There were many, many instances of a very slight variance of up to a Hundredth of an Inch in overall length, differing with the front tip length (see next note on front hole position) - The distance from the Center of the Front Mounting Hole to the Front Edge of the sight base = 0.485" .... If yours measures between 0.470" and 0.485" on this dimension, these would be considered the same: Again, there were manufacturing variances of roughly a Hundredth of an Inch in overall length, differing with the front tip length where the metal was cut - which accounts for any slight variance with this dimension. - MOST IMPORTANTLY: The distance between the FRONT of the Head of the Sight (part that the sight blade is inserted in to) and the center of the Front Mounting Screw Hole is 1.950 (approx 1 15/16"). This measurement is perhaps the most critical, because it accounts for the distance from where the head of the Sight hangs into the notch on the top of the revolver, and that when seated, the front mounting screw hole is lined right up!! We encourage you to Re-Measure again! There were several different variants of these sight assemblies that all look really close to each other - mounting screw position and overall length is what generally varied... As a general rule of thumb, THIS assembly would be native to many of the early - mid production year K Frame, L Frame revolvers. There may have also been a few select N Frame revolvers that used this specific Sight Assembly, we simply have not been able to verify that in house. As with any vintage gun parts there may be minor imperfections and we have attempted to capture a fair rendition of the condition of the items in the image set. See photos for full description.
