Excellent strike of CAPE TOWN / 27 FEB 25 CDS cancels 1p carmine KGV indicium & 1p rose Air Mail single, purple AIR MAIL / 27 FEB 1925 handstamp, inscribed "By Air Mail", addressed to Durban. Fresh & VF. The Aviation Act of 1923 marked the definite entry of South Africa on to the aviation scene. In 1925, Col. Pierre van Ryneveld was given authority to form an internal route from Durban to Cape Town. The service was to be synchronized with the arrival and departure of the steamers of the "Castle Line" from England. The first flight was Monday, March 2, 1925 from the S.S. Windsor Castle.
