Description: Russian MVD Ministry of Interior Troops Sleeve Badge (Patch) for EM and NCOs.GUARANTEED ORIGINAL item from the early 90s, not a recent replica!Measures 85 mm wide (a little over 3 ¼”). Impressed design made of strong, flexible synthetic. Back covered in finely woven cloth. Maroon colored wool front has gold circle and shows Soviet military emblem of the red star with hammer & sickle. The use of the Soviet emblem is very interesting to see on this badge because it was adopted for use by the Russian MVD in 1993, two years after the Soviet Union fell apart. The round design originally appeared in 1990, but the first model had inscription CCCP (“USSR”) on top which was removed on the first badge of the Russian model. The old Communist hammer and sickle however remained for a while: the leadership of MVD apparently loved the old insignia too much to change it. A short while later, the hammer and sickle disappeared from the MVD emblem. Eventually, the old design was discarded completely in favor of the shield-shaped badge with the tri-colored Russian flag or the new (old) Russian sigil of double-headed eagle. This particular transitional MVD badge was used for only a short time, an interesting footnote to the long history of Soviet MVD.
