While living in Kitakama, Shiga took on the role of a local photographer, documenting festivals and official events, and creating oral histories. These experiences greatly influenced her work. Shiga's approach to photography involved capturing each piece as if inhaling the air of Kitakama to its fullest and exhaling it quietly and slowly, aiming to reflect the traces of her physical connection to the land rather than merely conceptualizing the uniqueness of Kitakama. The photographs do not provide answers about Kitakama but rather present Shiga's pursuit of understanding what photography is as a medium and what it means to live and express oneself in harmony with the land.
