The source print, "Interlachen" dated 1833 from Finden's Landscape and Portrait Illustrations to the Life of Lord Byron. More commonly spelled Interlaken, literally "between the lakes" of Thun and Brienz, this beautiful area in the canton of Bern has been a tourist destination since about 1800. It lies at the base of the Eiger, the Moench and the Jungfrau mountains. Lord Byron visited in 1816, calling the town "a dream", and setting his play "Manfred" in Unspunnen Castle nearby.
