Description: TOTALLY GONE THROUGH & TUNED STANLEY No.7 TYPE 8 SMOOTH SOLE PLANE 1899 - 1902 B-CASTING22-1/2" long , 2-7/8 wide , cutter 2-3/8" wide work doneThe japanning on the body and frog is cleaned very well any light rust is removed then both are treated with metal oxide rust inhibitor which will protect any area that is missing japanning. I have used this process for many years and it works superb. Absolutely does not hurt the existing japanning. All the hardware was cleaned and oiled. The Rosewood Tote & knob are nice. Both were cleaned then waxed several times to get a very smooth natural finish. I did have to repair the horn on the tote its very solid and looks great. I always opt to repair authentic Stanley wood versus making replacements when ever possible. Absolutely nothing wrong with a well repaired tote or knob and I believe its just as important as any other piece to keeping these planes authentic. The sole was lapped "correctly". All lapping is done by hand on a large granite slab. Frog face & seats lapped. Cap iron was cleaned and lapped. The Cutter was lapped and sharpened. Its extremely sharp and cuts superb shavings leaving a very smooth finish on the wood surface. The Lever cap was cleaned then lapped at its contact point.This is a excellent working plane that will be a asset to any work shop or collection.
