She now lives and works from her home in Berkshire, England.Stella studied painting under the great colourist Martin Bloch in London, followed by her attending the 57th Street Art Students League of New York to study anatomy under George Bridgeman and painting under Frank Vincent DuMond and Yasuo Kuniyoshi, and by a period at the Pratt Institute Workshop for Artists, where she studied graphic techniques. At a young age, preceding her artistic career, Stella originally trained as an actress, singer and dancer, and has appeared in plays and films in England.Stella is internationally renowned as a sculptor, using marble or cast bronze to create dynamic and dramatic work that celebrates human and animal forms. She ran her own foundry in Constantia, Cape Town, and also produced large-scale sculptures in Carrara, Italy.In its themes and subjects her work has always been shot with an African thread. Her approach is that each piece is an attempt to “capture and crystallise life’s joys and sorrows”.
