Description: Sterling Pottery England Sugar & Creamer Set Acanthus Leaves Green Brown For consideration is this vintage open sugar and creamer set made by Sterling Pottery in England. These have embossed and highlighted in brown acanthus leaves on a green background. The sugar bowl measures 2¼ inches tall, the mouth measures 2¼ inches in diameter and the base measures 2 1/8 inches in diameter. The creamer measures 3 inches tall, the mouth measures 1¾ inches in diameter, 3¾ inches from lip to handle and the base measures 1¾ inches in diameter. Both are marked “Made In Sterling England” on the bases. The mark was used around 1949 and 1950 and in 1950 “Ridgway” was added to the mark. The set is in beautiful vintage condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, repairs, scratches or discoloration noted. Crazing can be seen with a magnifying glass. Buyer will receive FREE shipping. Thank you for looking! NOTE: Sterling Pottery Company was an earthenware manufacturer at Canning Street, Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, England, and established c.1939. They were the predecessor of Sterling Pottery Ltd. The company produced low to mid-priced tea and coffee sets, general and novelty tableware and small toby & character jugs. A local pottery company named Cooper Clayton Pottery, who specialized in toby and character jugs, closed in the early 1950s. They sold their moulds to Sterling Pottery who then sold these jugs as "Clayton Cooper Characters by Sterling". Sterling Pottery became part of the Lawley Group following its purchase by Ridgway (Bedford Works) Ltd. in 1950.
