Steven Klein Steven Klein was born in New York City, in 1964, and he was raised on Long Island. His education involved State University College at Farmingdale, New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, New York. Steven Klein has a degree in advertising and fine art.Steven Klein, an accomplished professional artist, chooses to paint, in a primitive or naïve style in order to transcend the structures and confines of traditional realism of which he had become a master.Primitive art, an expression of optimism, allows for Klein’s use of bright, vivid colors, simplicity of forms, fine details, and subject matter as diverse as an old country farm, a Victorian park, or a modern seashore. The influence of early American folk art and contemporary Yugoslav naïve art along with his background of realism, blend together in a highly unique and personal style. The primary purpose of Steven’s art is to reshape nature into a stylized yet simplified concept. This is achieved through a sophisticated style sometimes mingled with wit and humor. A split second of total activity is frozen in time depicting both man and his environment with a quality of freshness and spontaneity. In his breaking of the conventional rules of art, he has created what he calls “magic perspective,” enabling the viewer to observe the scene from many different points at the same time. Sometimes too, there is more than one light, source which also gives an added sparkle to the subjects. His goal of simplicity in contrast to the fine detail work is achieved by the tight, almost formal compositions. The use of basic shapes ~ circles, squares and vertical & horizontal planes are often repeated to give strength and directness to the scene. The continued success and recognition of Steven Klein’s paintings has brought his works to many collections worldwide and in many galleries throughout the United States.
