BEDALL COLLECTION ~ A very nice fired .54 caliber Burnside Carbine bullet with rifling grooves along the body. This Civil War relic, a nice fired .54 caliber Burnside Carbine bullet with rifling grooves, was recovered from Rude's Hill in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. This bullet comes from the collection of Wilbur C. Bedall, a thirty-year relic hunter who amassed a phenomenal collection of artifacts and carefully recorded the location of recovery for the items that he found. We have attached some borrowed information from a great site regarding Mr. Bedall's history and collection. Rude's Hill was used by Stonewall Jackson's army for camp during the 1862 Valley Campaign and was the site of an 1864 battle fought while Sheridan pursued Early down the valley. This includes copies of tags if there are original identification tags or maps, as well as a signed letter of provenance with the specific recovery information. All of the collections that we are offering for sale are guaranteed to be authentic and are either older recoveries, found before the 1960s when it was still legal to metal detect battlefields, or were recovered on private property with permission. Land on Battlefields that is now Federally owned, or owned by the Trust, was acquired after the relics were recovered.
