(1) Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind The first soundtrack album for Hayao Miyazaki's work by Joe Hisaishi. Includes newly recorded film background music based on the image album "Bird..." and the symphony "Legend of the Wind". Recorded in February 1984. Mai, who was 4 years old at the time, is in charge of the voice of "Requiem". (2) Laputa: Castle in the SkyA soundtrack album containing the background music used in the film. It also includes the insert song "Kimi wo Nosete." Laputa was the first Miyazaki work to use 4ch Dolby Stereo, and the music was on a grand scale befitting that. It was produced from June to July 1986. (3) My Neighbor TotoroA soundtrack album containing the background music used in the film. Hisaishi's music, which is a little different from "Nausicaä" and "Laputa," has a warm and heartwarming quality that you can enjoy to your heart's content. It was recorded in June to July 1989, just after Hisaishi returned to Japan from the United States where he was working on his solo album. The CD and LP jackets are the same. Also includes two insert songs by Yumi Arai. (5) Porco RossoA soundtrack album containing the music used in the film. It was recorded with a full orchestra of almost 70 people, focusing on acoustic sounds. Recording took place in May and June 1992. Also includes two songs by Tokiko Kato. (6) Princess MononokeA soundtrack album by the full orchestra of the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra. Recorded in May 1997. Contains all the music from the film, including the theme song by Yoshikazu Mera. Hisaishi won the Japan Record Award for Best Composition for the theme song. The album itself also won the Planning Award. (7) Spirited AwayA soundtrack album containing the music from the film. This is the first soundtrack album to be recorded live in a concert hall with the full orchestra of the New Japan Philharmonic. Hisaishi also conducted and played the piano. Recorded in May 2001. Also includes the theme song by Kimura Yumi. (8) Howl's Moving CastleIncludes the music from the film, centered around the newly composed theme "Merry-go-round of life." The New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra was once again recorded live in the hall. Hisaishi also conducted and played the piano. Recorded in June 2004. Also includes the theme song by Baisho Chieko. (9) Ponyo on the CliffIncludes the music from the film. In addition to the performances by the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, this work features a large chorus by the Ritsumeikan Chorus, dynamically expressing "the sea and life." Recorded in May 2008. Also includes the theme songs by Hayashi Masako, Fujioka Fujimaki, and Ohashi Nozomi. (10) The Wind RisesA soundtrack that is memorable for its full orchestral performances by the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, as well as songs featuring ethnic instruments such as the balalaika, mandolin, bayan, and accordio. Also includes the theme song "Contrail" sung by Yumi Arai. Recorded in May 2013. (11) Laputa: Castle in the Sky (USA Version) A new soundtrack album for the English dubbed version of "Laputa" released by Disney in North America in 2003, re-recorded by Hisaishi himself with a Hollywood film music orchestra, with a grand scale and powerful sound. Some new songs are also included. (12)) "La Folia" The Seed and the Egg Princess (opening at the Ghibli Museum) A soundtrack from the film "The Seed and the Egg Princess" at the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka. Based on Vivaldi's "La Folia," which Miyazaki listened to all the time while making this film, this work reconstructs the classical music with a modern approach, in line with the impact of Miyazaki's images.
