Katz survived the Holocaust but his father died of typhus during the war. After the war ended, Katz's family eventually settled in a displaced persons camp, where Katz was trained as a carpenter. Katz discovered that he had a talent for drawing and his mother arranged for him to take lessons with Dr. Hans Fokler of the Munich Academy. In 1949, Katz and his family moved to the United States, where they settled in New York. In New York, Katz took a job in carpentry while continuing to paint on the side. In 1956, Katz began to paint with a palette knife instead of paint brushes. After some time, he also began experimenting with the use of rags. When he ran out of rags, he used toilet paper. He would use the toilet paper to clean his palette knife and to create shapes on his paintings. From then on, Katz would paint his paintings with just a palette knife and toilet paper. Katz won two Guinness World Records, for being the world's fastest painter and the world's most prolific artist. His quickest painting, which earned him a Guinness World Record, was painted in just 38 seconds. Katz, who had a gallery in New York City and in Jerusalem, made over 600 television appearances during his life. He also had his own television show called the "Instant Art Show." On the show, Katz would paint three paintings in thirty minutes using just a palette knife and toilet paper. Katz passed away on November 12, 2010. Sales tax will be charged as applicable. This painting is offered for sale by Ronit D. Appel, a fine art gallery in Manhattan.
