Description: Stunning portrait of artist Georges Braque 1962 by Ida Kar 1908-1974 This is a high quality halftone print from Photograms of the Year 1962. Ida Kar 1908-1974 was a photographer active mainly in London after 1945. She took many black-and-white portraits of artists and writers. Her solo show of photographs at the Whitechapel Gallery in 1960 was the first of its kind to be held in a major public gallery in London. This photograph was taken by the Armenian-born photographer Ida Kar during a visit to Fryern Court. John is shown in his study before two of the clay busts that he produced in his later career. A large-scale variant of this image was exhibited at Ida Kar's exhibition at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in 1960. In a review of the show, Nicolas Elam described the portrait: 'Augustus John, his fame and bearing that of an old man but his expression intense and aware, determined not to miss a second of the life that remains.' Each image is delivered in an archival sleeve and hardback envelope. Happy to combine postage.
