Description: Super RARE & Obsolete MDC Boston Metropolitan Police Dept. Patch 1985. VERY rare Boston Metropolitan Police Dept. authentic shoulder patch by the regional state police force that patrolled in and around Boston that encompassed Metropolitan District Commission public lands and roadways- waterways. The agency known as the "The Mets", "Metro Police", and MDC police. The 600 member force was notorious for jurisdictional fights with the Boston Police Dept. and the Massachusetts State Police. They were equally notorious for being ultra corrupt. The Metro Police were disbanded and abolished by the state legislature in 1992 and the remaining MDC force was absorbed by the Mass. State Police. This particular patch was donned by a Metro Police Sgt. that was a rare exception to corruption and was a legend in his day- The Ghosts of Winter Hill is based on him, Big Joe Mcain of Somerville, MA. On the patch to the left is a faded stain to which I am told is blood from a famous brawl by Mcain with an Italian mobster named Barboza on Revere Beach Parkway.
