Description: During the time this ring was made, clear glass paste stones were the state of the art - as clear and bright as diamonds with their own strong lustre, and were cut by the same gemcutters as would work on diamonds. They commanded a similar price and were highly sought after at this grade. This wonderful solid 15 carat gold ring dates from the late Georgian period, around 1800, and has fabulously hand chased and engraved shoulders connected to its lovely ribbed, tapered band by tiny flowers. The halo of excellent sized round pastes rests around a fabulous rectangular cut paste that flashes and reflects from its unusual facets. Each is foiled to the back, enhancing their white colour and reflectiveness. It's finished as perfectly inside as out - a sure hallmark of quality. It's in unusually excellent condition, the pastes and their underlying foil bright and clear and with minimal wear to their sharp, fragile edges and only slight yellowing to the foil. My favourite aspect of this piece is the asymmetric shoulders with deeply rounded flowers and scrolls - the thought and attention to detail clear. It's a size 5 and can be resized a little if needed.
