Description: Here is a truly lovely silver plated knife from the Matson Navigation Company On one side of the handle is M N Co. At only 7 inches long it appears to be a butter knife, rather than a full size "place knife." CONDITION: It's extremely nice with only minimal and extremely light surface marks from use. This is a QUALITY piece with a hollow handle that is firmly affixed to the blade. It's a terrific find for any collector of ocean liner passenger ships. Per Wikipedia: The Matson Navigation Company was founded in 1882. Although it began as a freight line, the company introduced several passenger liners in 1908 to capitalize on the tourist trade. As a subsidiary of Matson Navigation Inc., it provides ocean shipping services across the Pacific. From the early 20th century through the 1970s, Matson liners sailed from the west coast ports of San Francisco and Los Angeles to Honolulu and points beyond, including a handful of South Pacific ports of call as well as Sydney, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand. In 1925, Matson acquired a controlling interest in the historic Moana Hotel on Waikiki, on the island of Oahu. They constructed the nearby Royal Hawaiian Hotel in 1927. In 1952, they built the SurfRider Hotel (today a wing of the Moana), followed by the Prncess Kalulani Hotel in 1955. They sold the four properties to Sheraton Hotels in 1959.
