From the San Diego, CA estate of recently-deceased noted artist/sculptor/woodworker Lorenzo Foncerrada. This piece was either made by or collected by him. “Fonce” was raised in a family from Guadalajara that counted Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Tine Modotti, Edward Weston, Jean Charlot, and Donal Hord as close artistic friends. When I first picked up this set at the estate sale, I thought it was made from petrified wood, it was that heavy, dense, and hard (including the outer "bark" layer).
