In 1941, shortly after Superman was created, Max and Dave Fleischer brought him to the big screen with a series of 17 critically acclaimed cartoons. (Some were nominated for an Oscar!) They are more like a short feature than a typical cartoon, with dramatic direction, highly stylized artwork, more realistic dialog, and a more human Superman. (Bud Colyer, the first person to play Superman in the movies, is the voice of the Man of Steel in all these episodes!) Originally, they were shown in theaters where they received tremendous response! Even Superman's creator, Jerry Siegel, said they are great! They were truly innovative in their day, and remain highly entertaining to this day!
