Campbell was born near Loch Linnhe at Kingairloch, Argyll. He was a Free Church minister of the united parishes of Tiree and Coll in Argyll. His work was published in numerous contemporary publications including the Scottish Review, Celtic Magazine, and Highland Monthly.
