Description: Swimming into the 21st Century, written and illustrated by Cecil M. Colwin. Hardcover, no dust jacket as issued, published in 1992 by Leisure Press, a division of Human Kinetics Publishers, Inc. First edition, first printing, xvi + 255 pages. Inscribed by the Olympic Champion Pablo Morales on the first free endpaper: "To Will, a great coach! Pablo Morales USA" At the time this book was written, Cecil Colwin had coached swimming for 47 years and was considered one of the world's foremost authorities on competitive swimming. It represents the culmination of his vast swimming experience and knowledge. This is a scholarly work, as will be seen by glancing at the Table of Contents, which includes chapters on The Fluid Dynamics of Swimming Propulsion and Selected Topics on Swimming Research; the book concludes with forty pages of appendices, references, credits and index. The inscription by Pablo Morales is an outstanding addition to this copy. A 1987 graduate of Stanford University, Morales was one of the greatest male swimmers in U.S. history, winning 11 individual NCAA titles. He held the U.S. Open and NCAA record in the 100-yard fly with a time of 46.26, which stood for 13 years, and the world record in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 52.84 from 1986 until 1995. He also won three gold and two silver medals in the 1984 and 1992 Olympic Games, serving as a team captain for the 1992 squad. In excellent condition. The interior appears to be flawless: no tears, chips, folds, creases, discoloration or writing. The binding is square and solid; boards are clear and bright, with some light scuffs and scratches; edges have a few small scrapes; corners are a bit worn and bumped. Not perfect - this is a used book more than 30 years old - but it is a handsome first printing signed by an Olympic Champion.
