Narrative: "Soon the train reaches Amsteg Station, which is some way distant from and above the village of that name, which is well seen when the train crosses, high above the village, a lofty bridge thrown over the Kdrstehn torrent, flowing from the Maderanerthal. Amsteg is prettily situated under the Bristenstock and Windgalle, but though built at a height of 1713 ft, it is very hot in summer, despite which it is much frequented at that season. It is astride the Kiirstelen stream, and at the mouth of the Maderanerthal, which stretches E. as far as the Huh Glacier at the base of the Scheerhorn and Diissistock, a valley abounding in waterfalls and pine forests (it is described in Rte. 90). The Hotel in that valley is 3 hrs. from Amsteg by mule path, but the lower part of the valley may be visited in less than 2 hrs., by walking to the first bridge over its torrent and back. A very pleasant walk from Amsteg is to ascend the alp on the opposite side of the valley of the Reuss by a path from the bridge over that river. It leads through beautiful scenery, and commands a grand view of the Bristenstock. The Grossgant (6834 ft.) or the Lettersbalm (7717 ft.), a still finer point of view, N.W. of it, may be climbed."
