The Takeda claimed descent from a 9th Century Emperor of Japan but they were never so prominent as when they were led by Takeda Shingen, who died in 1573. Aided by the samurai still known today as his 24 Generals, Shingen forged his clan's heavy cavalry into the most respected soldiers in Japan. The legend that the clan used a body double to conceal his death from their enemies inspired Kurosawa's classic film Kagemusha. This is a great item for history and Japanese culture fans alike. Over 400 years since Tokugawa Ieyasu established himself as Shogun and brought it to and end, the Sengoku Jidai period continues to fascinate the world over.
