There were 250 etchings made. This one is number 40. Stephan Whittle was born in Leeds, England in 1953. He studied copper plate etching at the Chelsea School of Art in London and continued his education at the Brighton College of Art. In 1980, Stephan Whittle opened an etching studio in Lancashire. He quickly became popular in Great Britain. Whittle is easily recognized for his sense of intense color and flowing compositions in his landscape, floral, and still life designs. By 1990, whittle was exhibiting in Paris, Frankfort, Tokyo, and New York. In 1992 he moved to lowa. In the U.S. he started to print larger images, and he expanded his style to include embossed designs as a border for his etchings. He never abandoned his use of vibrant color. In 1992, Whittle moved to northern California where he printed a series of etchings relating to wine and vineyard motts. Stephan While passed away in an accident in 2001.
