Robert Harbinson Bryans (1928-2005) was a prolific author of popular travel and autobiographical works. Involved with the Anglo-Irish establishment throughout his life, in his later years he achieved a degree of notoriety for alleging that a number of public figures were gay. The book is accompanied by a letter (dated 1962) to David Morgan Rees of D Morgan Rees & Sons Ltd (a wire rope manufacturer) from Michael W Stillwell of The Engineering Company of Portugal Ltd. Stillwell (1920-2008) was awarded the Military Cross for commando activity in WW2, and later the CBE for services to the British Community in Portgual. He encloses a short 2 page note of advice, in Portuguese, on visiting the Azores written by his uncle D Antonio Castello Branco.
