THE CHILD IN THE CUSTOMS AND BELIEFS OF THE UKRAINIAN PEOPLE The work of the Ukrainian ethnographer, public figure, and UAOC bishop Marko Hrushevsky (1865-1938) is a “rich collection of material about children in the Ukrainian village” (Ivan Franko), including beliefs and superstitions, hygiene and methods of education, fun and daily activities, and the position of children in the family and in society. The author of the book conducted a study from the first manifestations of the mother's pregnancy to birth, as well as the daily development and upbringing of the child. The author's text is complemented by comments in the margins by well-known teachers, psychologists, doctors, and writers. Today, this book is a monument of folk experience, folk culture in pedagogy, folklore, and ethnography. Marko Hrushevsky was repressed by the Soviet authorities in 1938.
