Description: This is an auction for a scarce book "The Czar’s Germans with Particular Reference to the Volga Germans” written by Hattie Plum Williams, edited by E. Haynes, P. Legler and G. Walker and published by the American Historical Society Germans From Russia in Lincoln Nebraska in 1975. Presumed first edition, first printing copy. Plum's early 1900's study of German settlements in Russia, which began as early as the 1600’s, greatly increasing when Catherine II later encouraged settlers to come to Russia. The book also details the Russian German emigration to the United States after 1871, when Russian Germans found their way to Nebraska and the Dakotas, as well as Kansas and other states. A very good green hardback in a good dustjacket. The book has a previous owner’s inscription on reverse side of front end page. Dustjacket has a chip to lower edge of front panel, some light paper loss to top edge of spine, a closed tear and some browning of the dustjacket. Book measures 6 by 9.5 inches, 236 pages with index, 50 illustrations and double-page endpaper map of European Russia in 1773. A solid tight copy comes from a smoke free environment. This book is NOT a book club or ex-library copy. Selling rare books since 1994.
