Emery (1924-2017) was born in Eliot, Maine.He graduated manga cum laude from Boston University in 1949 with a bachelor of arts degree and went on to earn a master of arts degree from Columbia University. In 1952 while making his home in Manhattan, he joined Interior Design Magazine and soon became the long time editor of the publication serving until his retirement. He enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the interior design field earning many awards.Upon retirement he and his partner of over sixty years Harold Merry, returned to his home town of Eliot where they continued their successful book and autograph business until Harold's death in 2008.
