Description: British Parliament 1925 Vintage Lithograph The Feast of Ahasuerus - Samson Proposes a Riddle by Paul Rembrandt The painting in this engraved print is identified by a number of titles: The Feast of Ahasuerus (a generic title for Persian rulers), The Wedding Feast of Samson, and Samson proposes a Riddle.The riddle, with which Samson challenges his thirty wedding guests, is as follows: "Out of the eater came something to eat, and out of the strong came something sweet." Samson proposed a bet to the thirty Philistine men assigned to be his wedding feast companions. If they solve his riddle before the end of the festivities, he will give each a full change of clothes. If they cannot solve it before the feast ends, each man will owe him a change of clothes. The answer was that Samson had taken honey from a hive that had been formed in the carcass of a lion (Judg. 14:8,17). Published by Dresden Leipzig and London, A. H.
