SIGNED Copies of this Title are Scarce and Becoming Increasingly Hard to Find!! Paperback/Softcover.Original price of $8.95 located on the rear cover.Published by Farrar Straus Giroux: New York, 1985. Boldly SIGNED by the celebrated author!NOT inscribed, simply SIGNED by the great Stephen Jay Gould! Please note there is a second signature present on the same page! Initially, we believed that the second signature had some importance. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we have been unable to ascertain, with an acceptable degree of certainty, the identity of the other individual whose signature is present on this page. For this reason, we must proceed with an abundance of caution and assume it is simply the signature of a previous owner. We must assume it adds no monetary value or has any cultural significance. Once again, there is a second signature present on the same page and we must assume it is simply the signature of a previous owner. A First American Paperback/Softcover Edition."First Edition" is clearly stated on the copyright page and there is a FULL number line ending in "1". Please remember this is NOT a Hardcover! This title was originally published in hardcover, making the hardcover first the TRUE First Edition/First Printing of this title. If interested, we do have a TWO, TRUE First Hardcover Editions currently up for sale. One of them is signed, the other is not. Feel free to message us for more info regarding those copies. Once again, this copy is NOT a hardcover. This rare treasure has some very clearly visible wear, but is still in Highly Desirable, Highly Collectible condition! The book appears gently read and has no internal writing, no foxing, no remainder marks, no missing pages and is NOT Ex-Libris. The binding has some wear but is still holding tight and the pages are surprisingly crisp and clean! While all of the pages are present and fully attached, the binding does feel quite loose/shaky when opened and the book should be handled delicately. One could conceivably imagine some of the pages becoming loose if not handled with care. Some general/shelf wear along with... Scuffing/creases/wear to the spine, the front cover and the rear cover. The wear is particularly noticeable near/along the edges! The wear is very clearly visible and should be carefully examined/considered. Marks/wear to the edge/fore pages. Creases/wear to the pages. Varying in size and severity and, thankfully, NOT affecting the text! Still, the wear is very clearly visible and should be carefully examined/considered. We tend to grade the condition of our books rather harshly and took into consideration any and all wear when determining the value of this rare book. We purposely and closely photographed what we consider to be the most obvious and egregious wear.Once again, we want to reiterate that the wear is VERY clearly visible! All of the wear should be carefully examined/considered BEFORE buying. Numerous photographs from various angles were taken for your consideration/inspection. Please closely and carefully view ALL the pictures for further clarification!! Following the conclusion of the auction, payment must be received within three days or the book will be re-listed.Please feel free to contact us with any and all questions. We are very proud of our 100% positive feedback/ranking and offer an easy, no questions asked return policy so you can buy with confidence! Thank you!!
