Description: FIRST EDITION "The Games Book" circa 1897 (date from Bodleian Library, book states "876 Bavaria" not sure if that is a date meaning 1876?), 4to, 235 x 180 mm, 9¼ x 7 inches, pretty chromolithograph frontispiece showing children playing Blind Man's Buff, numerous black and white illustrations, some full page, a small one of cats by Louis Wain, some by William Foster, many by Evelyn Stuart Hardy, some signed A.D. and many unsigned. Victorian children's pastimes: indoor games, tricks and puzzles, outdoor games, occupations, collections, and the care of pets. In the original publisher's dark green cloth lettered gilt on upper cover and spine, beveled edges, large colored illustration to upper cover of a girl playing Blind Man's Buff, a gold chain and pendant round her neck, all edges gilt, 192 pages.
