Originally serialised in The Strand Magazine from August 1901 to April 1902, it is set largely on Dartmoor in Devon in England's West Country and tells the story of an attempted murder inspired by the legend of a fearsome, diabolical hound of supernatural origin. Sherlock Holmes and his companion Dr. Watson investigate the case. This was the first appearance of Holmes since his apparent death in "The Final Problem", and the success of The Hound of the Baskervilles led to the character's eventual revival. One of the most famous stories ever written, in 2003, the book was listed as number 128 of 200 on the BBC's The Big Read poll of the UK's "best-loved novel." In 1999, it was listed as the top Holmes novel, with a perfect rating from Sherlockian scholars of 100. ---------- About the Author---------- Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle,(1859–1930) was a British author most noted for his stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes, which are generally considered a major innovation in the field of crime fiction, and for the adventures of Professor Challenger. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and While studying, he also began writing short stories. After graduating he set up a medical practice at 1 Bush Villas in Elm Grove, Southsea. The practice was not very successful and while waiting for patients, he again began writing stories. In 1887 he wrote "A Study in Scarlet," the first story to feature Sherlock Holmes, who would become one of his most timeless charchters. His other major seriesdescribed the adventures of Proffessor Challenger, most famously featured in "The Lost World." ---------- Return Policy---------- If you are unsatisfied with your purchase for any reason, a FULL refund will be issued so long as I am notified within 14 days after you receive your purchase.
