Description: Offered here is an antique children's book, "The Little Deserter,", Not dated but circa 1869 The Mcloughlin Firm was listed as ‘McLoughlin Bros. & Co. in the New York Directory for 1869. Publishers advertisements on the back cover, includes an add for Humpty Dumpty illustrated by Thomas Nast, which was published in 1869. 12pp Illustrated with six half page colored illustrations. The illustrations are signed by engraver Edward P.Cogger. The story is about four boys playing soldiers. Bound in original card wrappers. original rough stitching was over-stitched by hand many years ago, two small tears on the front cover at the spine - white lines from the right are reflections in the plastic sleeve I put the book in. There is a gift message to a pupil from his teacher dated 1872 on the first endpaper. It is approximately 7 1/8" X 9". A very scarce book!!!
