Description: Condition Continued: I turned all of the text pages over and found only a very small number of them with any soiling, and only there with a light, small spot. And there is no foxing on any of the text pages. The three blank front end papers have only a small amount of light foxing, tan spots. The same is the case with the three blank rear end papers. The rear inside cover has a half-dozen small tan spots. There is not much by way of creasing on the pages. On the last few the tip of the top corners were folded in. I unfolded them and there are little creases now just below the tip, no loss of paper. There is a small, light crease off the bottom edge of the title page. There are no placeholder creases on any the pages. There is a pinprick hole at the margin of one page. I saw one tiny edge tear. There are no markings in the book. No one has written their name or anything else anywhere. There is a teeny tiny bookseller stamp just off the top edge of the front inside cover. It has a light yellow background and states George Gallie, Bookseller & Stationer, 99 Buchanan St., Glasgow (got that with the use of a magnifying glass). There are no other attachments to be found anywhere in the book. Printed for Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown; And John Ballantyne, London and Edinburgh, 1817. Hardcover. Written by James Hogg. Stated Second Edition. The first edition was published in 1816. In the Advertisement that comes between the Title and the Contents pages the 'Editor' claims to have 'procured from the authors the various poems of which the volume is composed.' But apparently they are all his own, James Hogg's parodies of the poets Lord Byron, Walter Scott, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Robert Southey, John Wilson-- and even one of himself. 'Wordsworth's Extempore Effusion upon the Death of James Hogg, written on 30 November, nine days after Hogg's death, includes the lines: The mighty Minstrel breathes no longer,'Mid mouldering ruins low he lies; And death upon the braes of Yarrow,Has closed the Shepherd-poet's eyes.'
