He also served as an assistant professor of reading education at Appalachian State University from 2019-2022, and has taught reading education courses at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. DeHarts research interests include multimodal literacy, including film and graphic novels, and literacy instruction with adolescents.
