Description: Lovely HTF antique volume of nature poetry selected by John Chadwick. Dual title: The Splendors of Nature or Two Voices Printed in 1886 by the H.M. Caldwell Co. of New York and Boston. Poems are by a variety of both very well known and little known poets. See photos for table of contents. Cover in remarkably good shape with bark-like illustration on front and back. Back cover shows wear. Alcazar Classics is stamped in gold on front. A gold stamped design surrounds a glued on illustration that resembles a Japanese watercolor nature scene. Illustration is missing in a few spots. Below the illustration the title is stamped in gold: The Splendors of Nature. Gold stamping has rubbed areas. One illustration at title page. No loose pages. Binding intact but shows a little wear at front cover and less wear at the back. There is a faded or erased inscription which is too light to show anymore. "To Alva from Flossie?" Lower on the page in pencil is the name of one owner: Lillie Cooper. If only this little book could tell us of all the hands who've held it. A book dealer has written in pencil an inventory code and the price of $12. Someone has written that the book is 128 years old. As of 2024, the book is 138 years old. I can send more pictures.
