He also retired from the US Army after a career as a Reserve officer (with the rank of Colonel) with the US Armys Research and Development Command. The ideas and inspiration for The Wicked Witch of the North resulted from stories told to his four children on the way home to the farm from their travels to prevent backseat bickering.
