Description: John Murray (London), 1832-1833. First edition, complete 17 volume set, dark green cloth-covered boards with two steel engravings (with tissue guard between) in front of the title page. Original publication was 14 volumes in 1832 with additional volumes published in 1833. This matching set consists of volume 1 published in 1833 (with Preface to volumes 1 and 2), volumes 2-12 published in 1832, and volumes 13-17 published in 1833. Photos 7 and 8 show the 12 volumes that are in Good to Good Plus Condition with variable fading of the cloth along the spine, and bright gold lettering at top of spine. These volumes all have solid bindings without any cracking of the hinges, variable rubbing the surfaces of the boards, the interior pages (except the engravings) are free of foxing, there is moderate bumping at the top and bottom of the spine, and heavy bumping at the corners of the boards. Volumes 1-4 are graded in Acceptable condition due to heavier wear and cracking along the hinges (see photos 9 and 10). Volume 9 is in poor condition with a totally broken binding, but with extant steel engravings. There is medium to extensive foxing of the twin pages with steel engravings, while the interior pages are free of foxing. Each volume has dusting/soiling of the top page edges and two handwritten numbers (one crossed out) at the upper corner of the front pastedown.Please note that we can only ship overseas to countries serviced by the eBay Global Shipping Program.
